Software:
This Gelidus Research RATGDO is designed to run on ESPHome frameworks. ESPHome integration with Home Assistant (HA) is ideal for providing a rich user interface. Adding the GRGDO1 to ESPHome and HA is easy using the preinstalled captive portal. Using any tablet or phone etc. that identifies a captive portal. You can link up the module without any serial firmware programming hassle’s. Once connected to your WIFI network it’s strait forward with HA integration. Thanks Gelidus Research for a great product at a reasonable price!
I ordered this and when I tried to set up my board, I ran into a problem setting up the firmware (which was my first ESPHome project). Mike from Gelidus research was super responsive and helped to diagnose the problem. Turned out I had gotten the board into a bad state by not following the steps (hint: you may need to set up SSL for your HA instance). Mike immediately sent me a replacement board, which worked perfectly after I got better wifi in the garage. Integration with my liftmaster opener works beautifully, and I can control the opener with Home Assistant without relying on a cloud service.

These devices are a near-perfect mixture of turnkey and hobby – the documentation is top notch. The product is ready to go right out of the box and ready to hook up and it’s overseen by someone engaged and seeking continuous improvement. Highly recommend purchasing any of these devices!
I do own one of the “RATGDO Board v2 USB-C” devices, I purchased a 12v to USB-C voltage converter such that I could tap my openers 12v battery and power the RATGDO device without using the 120v power socket.

Works perfectly, no real tinkering required (assuming you know what you’re doing in Home Assistant). I have a yellow button GDO. Briefly thought I had issues with mine when I had it connected and nothing would happen. But turned out one wire wasn’t quite making contact in the opener terminal. After catching that, it worked right away. Also got the temp/humidity sensor, which worked right away as well. Would happily buy this again if/when my other GDO needs replacement.

What a fantastic product and offering from Gelidus Research. I ordered USB-C version, followed the instructions and had it working in no time. I have a yellow-button LiftMaster and it works perfectly.
I had also ordered the optional temperature and humidity sensor and was happy to see it came pre-installed on the device. All I had to do was locate the section for the sensor in the YAML and uncomment the block before installation.
Shipping was quick! I opted for the cheapest shipping method and was pleasently surprised to see it was at my door across the country the next day.
I am very happy with this and would recommend it to anyone.
